Science association of Siddharth College of Arts, Science and Commerce Mumbai has organized its science festival NUCLIDEA 24 on 13th and 15th January 2024. To glorify the history of the college, Principal Prof. Dr. Ashok Sunatkari and Vice Principal Prof. Ramesh Zade, President Science Association, Heads, teachers of science faculties and student volunteers have taken initiative to organize this festival.
Throughout the academic year, Science association has organized Intracollegiate level functions with following departments.
- The Zoology department has celebrated International Tiger Day on 4th August 2023 along with events such as Mask making, Bookmark keeping, Face painting.
- The Botany department has celebrated World Environment day and Mangrove awareness day on 19th August 2023 with events such as Poster making, Fruit and vegetable carving, Essay writing, and Best out of waste.
- The Chemistry department has celebrated Ozone Day with the aim “Protect the Ozone” by conducting events such as Poster making, Elocution and Best out of waste on 26th August 2023.
- The Physics department also organized Mega event on “FUN with SCIENCE” on 11th September 2023 by arranging enjoyable practical session of well-known Prof. Bhagwan D. Chakradeo.
- To harmonise all subjects of science, Science Association has involved all the science faculties and students, Science Association has organized Intra Collegiate and Intercollegiate science festival “NUCLIDEA 24”. This fest was inaugurated on its first day 13th January 2024 by the hands of Dr. Bhushan Dhabekar, Scientific Officer G from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Mumbai. After Buddhavandana, theme of the fest and introduction of the chief guest was done by Prof. Ramesh Zade. Subsequently Principal of the college Prof. Dr. Ashok Sunatkari has briefly introduce the Siddharth College and aim of this fest. It was followed by peer speech by chief guest Dr. Bhushan Dhabekar where he inspired the students about the happening of science development, introduced BARC and also briefed about the opportunities of career in BARC. Student representation of this Science association for the Academic year 2023-24 was formally declared.
- Snehal Salve is selected as Secretary
- Sahil Kadam is selected as Joint Secretary
- Ansh Narwade Joint is selected as Treasurer
- Swagat Ghugare is selected as Joint Treasurer
Anchoring of this function was done by Sneha Singh and vote of thanks presented by Snehal Salve, both from SYBSc.
Inaugural function sets the tune for a full packed schedule of events in intracollegiate science fest on 13th January 2024.
- Science Mela: Organized in the Physics department where 7 participants presented their models. These models were judged by Chief guest Dr. Bhushan Dhabekar and Vice Principal Dr. Rajkumar Dugane. Sneha Singh was declared winner.
- Nature Photography: Organized on the first floor where 21 students participated and these photographs were judged by Dr. N. S. Chandan and Dr. Sachin Kuvar. Allwyn Fernandes was declared as the winner.
- Mathematical chair: organized on the ground floor where 15 participants have taken part and two were winners. Daksh Ghadge was declared as the winner.
On 15th January 2024, intercollegiate events continued.
- Debate competition: Organized in room no. 12 where 6 participants have taken part and were judged by Dr. Suhas Shingare, Dr. Suraj Purnadare and Mr. Rohit Gotpagar. Sneha Singh of Siddharth college was declared as winner.
- Quiz: organized in the Zoology department where 4 teams were selected out of total 13 teams. Selected four teams underwent visual round, rapid fire round and Buzzer round. Aayush Pandey from Wilson college was declared as winner.
- Treasure hunt: This was a really mega event where 20 teams of students participated. 10 teams were selected based on their performance in the preliminary round which then allowed them to go for the actual treasure hunt competition. A group of 4 students comprising of MSc and Ph.D. were declared as winner.
The two days’ science festival was concluded with Prize distribution ceremony which was presided by Principal Prof. Dr. Ashok Sunatkari and Chief guest of the function was Prof. Dr. Suresh Pawar from Chemistry department of Mumbai University. Prof. Suresh Pawar has handed over medals, trophies and certificates to winners. He also emphasized the importance of hard work and focus upon a career in science. Principal Prof. Dr. Ashok Sunatkari congratulated all the winners and conveyed best wishes to all participants. Snehal salve anchored the prize distribution function and Prof. Ramesh Zade presented vote of thanks and. It was concluded with the national anthem.
On behalf of all science students, student’s representatives, I am very thankful to our Principal Prof. Dr. Ashok L. Sunatkari for his valuable guidance, constant encouragement and financial support to run all above activities. I am also thankful to whole hearted support of the management of PES to begin and execute activities for the spread virtues of Science and Technology which is the goal of PES college as envisaged by knowledge icon revered Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.
